Dir. Michal Aviad (Israel, 2016, 70 min.)
Seven women who arrived in the desert town of Dimona in the 1950s and 60s from North Africa and Europe tell their life stories. They talk about suitcases they brought from home filled with modern dresses, pearl necklaces, and Elvis Presley and Paul Anka records; their childhoods at schools which absorbed new immigrant children on a daily basis; their experiences as young women working in newly established textile factories; the men they met at the bus stop or at a party—those who became the loves of their lives, and those who broke their hearts. They recount stories about the aches and pains of adjusting to a new home, and their determined and creative attempts to live rich and fulfilling lives.Winner, Best Documentary, Jerusalem Film Festival
